Glenbrook The Gateway to the Blue Mountains

The village of Glenbrook is an important link in the tourist chain being the "Gateway to the Mountains", the first town on the highway that tourists pass and the entrance to the Blue Mountains World Heritage Park. The City Council have reconised the importance of the Village and erected a Tourist Information Center near the entrance of the the Village Center.

Glenbrook offers the tourist many  interesting and attractive walks, both within the village and the National Park. Marges and Elizabeth's lookouts command views of the entire Cumberland Valley, indeed the tall buildings and bridge of Sydney are clearly visible. Ross and Chalmers lookout and Mt. Portal give excellent views of Nepean gorge and river respectively. Excellent picnic areas are available in the National Park, the most popular of these being Euroka clearing and fantastic BBQ facilities, tables, child play area and toilet facilities are available in Glenbrook Park adjacent to the Village Center.

History abounds in the Village area, in fact the first bridge to be built on mainland Australia, Lennox Bridge still stands. A lot of evidence still exists of the first railway   over the mountains, the Lapstone Zig Zag, tunnel and Wascoe Siding are all accessible. The original explorers passed through the area,  plaque commemorating this event stands alongside the Highway near the Native Plant reserve.

The business centre, caterers well to the local village and to tourists that visit with a large choice of Cafe and Restaurant's to choose from. There are all the daily needs with a Supermarket, Butcher, Fruit shop, Bakery, Newsagent, Doctors and Dentist. For the shopper there is a Fantastic shoe shop, Dress shops and Gift Shops to suit all tastes. (Note to self: great place for a girls day away).

The village celebrates Spring every year with a Festival on the Second Saturday of November every year. The festival has many types of stalls and plenty of live entertainment for adults and children alike.
